General FAQ
We offer guided mountain bike adventures for adults and school-age kids. Based in Singapore, we organise guided rides locally as well as tours in other countries.
We identify and partner with the very best local tour operators (i.e. the trail builders, elite riders, cultural ambassadors) and work with them to improve upon established tours and create entirely new tours. We also host every single tour to ensure your needs are met and our partners deliver above and beyond. Finally, we attract fun-loving, mountain-bikers with a thirst for adventure and cultural exchanges. That’s you!
Some years ago, Jose Puig, a dear friend of ours, moved to Singapore from the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. A talented surfer and stylish mountain biker, he commented that trail riding was the closest thing to surfing on land (we will ignore skateboarding out of respect for Jose and for the sake of this story).
We are proud to feature artwork created by local artists from each of our tour destinations. These vibrant, colourful pieces perfectly capture the high-energy fun of riding with Trailsurfers. Here are details of the featured artworks / artists: Turf & Surf - Kuncir Sathya Viku. ‘Garden Of Edan’ Series Riders of the Rim - Made Agus Saputra. ‘Step Away!!!!!’ The Bumthang Effect & Mad Man in Bhutan - Tshewang Tenzin. ‘Cradle to Crucible’ & ‘Cycle of Suffering’ Life is a Fairy Trail - Murat Palta. ‘Sleep of Turtles’ Everest Express - Tsherin Sherpa. Untitled 2013 Raw E-motion - Manish Harijan. From ‘Nepal Now’ Project The Sun Is Rising. Utagawa Kuniyoshi. ‘At First Glance He Looks Fierce, But He Is Really a Kind Person’.

International
Groups & Booking
Our international tours run with groups of 4 to 10 riders, though exact numbers vary by tour and are listed on each tour's web page. If you're booking as an individual or a couple, you'll join a group of like-minded riders. Groups of 4 or more can arrange a private tour of their own.
We choose our tour dates based on local weather and when we think will be the best time to travel. However, there’s often some flexibility so please contact us via WhatsApp at +65 8925 1252 or email ride@trailsurfers.co to discuss alternatives. For larger groups that fill a whole tour, we can set dates around what works for your group.
Due to the demanding nature, longer distances, and remote locations of our international itineraries, these tours are generally limited to riders aged 16 and above. If you are looking for a custom family trip with younger children or a non-riding partner, please contact us directly to discuss bespoke itinerary options. Many of our destinations have plenty of cultural activities to keep non-riders busy while you're out on the trails.
Our international tour packages cover all expert guiding, trail logistics, ground transport during the tour, and select meals as outlined in the specific itinerary. Accommodation is typically included based on twin-share rooms, with single-room upgrades available upon request. Please note that international flights, travel insurance, personal equipment, and discretionary spending are not included.
Every participant on a Trailsurfers international tour receives an exclusive piece of tour merchandise as a keepsake of the trip. Depending on the tour, this may be a t-shirt, MTB jersey, baseball cap or pack bag, each designed specifically for that tour.
Your booking and contract are made directly with our trusted local tour operator in the destination country. Trailsurfers acts exclusively as a sales agent to help you find and select the perfect trip, which means we are not a travel agency and are not legally responsible for the operation of the tour itself. We do not process or handle your money; all payments and financial transactions will be made directly to the local partner according to their booking terms.
Because we partner with different local operators worldwide, payment and cancellation terms vary by destination. Please refer to your specific tour brochure or web page for the exact terms that apply to your trip. Because these policies are strictly enforced by our local partners, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive trip cancellation insurance.
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all participants on our international tours. Your policy must cover mountain biking and medical evacuation in the destination country. You will be required to provide proof of your policy details and emergency contact numbers to our team before the trip begins.
Absolutely nothing. However, you’ll find the pricing is the same (or more, if you’re a smaller group) and you won’t be accompanied by a Trailsurfers host. Our hosts ensure that all your expectations (on and off the bike) are met in real-time, on the ground. Trailsurfers also has a reputation for attracting and creating groups of like-minded people, i.e. fun loving, adventurous MTBers. Come and be part of it!
Equipment & Preparation
You are welcome to bring your own mountain bike or rent a full-suspension bike from our local fleet at the destination. If you choose to bring your own bike, you are responsible for packing, airline bike fees, and reassembling it upon arrival, though our guides will be on hand to help with basic setup. If renting, just provide us with your height and (if desired) suspension preferences during booking so we can have a perfectly tuned bike waiting for you. We also have fantastic e-bikes available at most destinations if you fancy a bit of extra power on the climbs. Just ask us for details during your booking!
Our guides carry basic tools and supplies like pumps and chain oil. Many spares are brand or product specific. In most countries we ride in (Nepal, Bhutan, etc.), they aren't always easy, or even possible, to find. So it pays to come prepared. Here's a list of personal items we typically bring when riding abroad. Don't worry if you can't get hold of everything. Just source as many as you can, so a minor mechanical issue doesn't cut your day short: • Inner tubes (27.5" or 29" depending on wheel size) and/or a tubeless repair kit • Brake pads • Multi-tool with a chain breaker, plus a few spare chain links (“quick/magic links”) • Rear derailleur hanger specific to your bike frame Please note, many spares are very specific to your bike. If you're not sure what you need, it's best to drop by your local mountain bike shop with your bike and ask for help.
A well-fitting helmet (ideally full-face) and closed-toe riding shoes are mandatory. We highly recommend knee pads and elbow guards, full-finger gloves, and a high-quality hydration pack capable of carrying at least two litres of water, snacks, and basic layers. International destinations often feature fast weather changes, so a lightweight, packable waterproof jacket is an essential item on every ride. We will send you a detailed, destination-specific packing list well ahead of departure.
Trails & Difficulty
International tours require a solid baseline of mountain biking experience and good physical conditioning. Each tour page lists a specific skill and fitness rating from beginner-friendly to advanced, so you can choose the destination that best matches your riding style.
Our priority is ensuring everyone enjoys the trails safely without feeling rushed or held up. On days with long descents or climbs, we regroup at major trail junctions, viewpoints, and rest stops. For larger groups, we often utilise two or more guides so the group can naturally split into a faster and a more relaxed pace when the terrain allows.
Our guides are fully certified in wilderness first aid and are highly experienced trail mechanics. For minor mechanical issues, we fix them on the spot to get you moving again. In the rare event of a severe mechanical failure or injury, our support vehicle or local emergency contacts are utilised to safely exit you from the trail and manage logistics from there.
Accommodation & Food
The accommodation we choose is always clean, safe, and comfortable. The level of luxury varies by destination and availability, particularly in more remote or high-altitude regions such as Nepal and Bhutan, where options can be more basic. We'll always let you know what to expect for your specific trip. Rest assured, wherever we are we try to find the most comfortable accommodation available.
Rooms are typically arranged on a twin-share basis. Single rooms are available at most destinations for an additional cost. Please enquire for price specific to your trip.
Most meals are included, as detailed in each tour's brochure or web page. You can usually expect a mix of local and Western options, though choices can be limited at high altitude. If you have specific dietary requirements, it's best to get in touch so we can advise on what's available at your chosen destination. Where a meal isn't provided, we will advise on nearby options.
Singapore
Groups & Booking
Our standard mainland rides take around 2 hours, including breaks and a brief safety briefing at the start. The "Island of Lost Trails" tour on Pulau Ubin needs a 4-hour window to allow for the ferry crossing. Depending on your group's ability, we typically cover 5–15km.
We usually suggest a 9am start to beat the midday heat, but we're happy to arrange an alternative time to suit your schedule.
Our guided sessions are designed for small, private groups of 1 to 4 riders. To provide a personalised experience tailored to your pace and skill level, we do not mix groups, meaning you will only be riding with the people you bring along.
Absolutely! The trails are suitable for children and adults aged 10 and above. Please note that children should be confident riding a two-wheeled bike without training wheels before joining a trail ride.
Yes, we do. Get in touch via WhatsApp at +65 8925 1252 or email ride@trailsurfers.co and we'll tailor an outing to your group's needs.
Every group of 1 to 4 riders is led by one or two certified guides, depending on group size and experience level.
All our guides are certified Level 1 Intermediate Coaches with the Global Syndicate of Mountain Bike Coaches (GSMBC) and hold Wilderness First Aid certification through NOLS.
All our guides speak English. Mandarin or Malay speaking guides are available on request.
Yes, safety is our top priority, but mountain biking carries inherent risks. All participants must sign a standard digital liability waiver before hitting the trails, which we will send to you via email upon booking confirmation. For parents booking on behalf of minors, a legal guardian must sign the waiver. While we do not strictly require international tourists or locals to show proof of personal insurance, we highly recommend ensuring your personal health or travel insurance policy covers sports activities like mountain biking.
Once you book, we'll send payment details for PayNow or bank/Wise transfer. No deposit is needed, but full payment is due at least 24 hours before your session starts.
Getting There
To maximise your trail time, we typically meet right at the trailhead. Once you’ve selected your location, we’ll send you a precise map pin and instructions on the easiest way to get there by taxi or public transport. For the Pulau Ubin tour, we meet at Changi Point Ferry Terminal and head across on the bumboat together.
Yes, all our trailheads have government-run car parks nearby. If these are full, our guides can point you to alternatives close by.
We understand that plans can change. Just give us at least 24 hours' notice.
We'll hold your start time for up to 30 minutes, but we're unable to extend the session beyond that.
Equipment
Wear comfortable athletic gear you don't mind getting a bit muddy. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Since riding gets sweaty and muddy, we recommend bringing a towel and a fresh change of clothes for afterwards. Note that while there are public restrooms at the trailheads, there are no shower facilities.
We recommend a small backpack with sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, and at least one large water bottle — Singapore's humidity means you'll need plenty of hydration.
No need. Our price already covers bike rental, so we'll have a high-quality, well-maintained mountain bike ready for you. Just let us know your height when booking. Of course, if you'd rather ride your own bike, you're very welcome to bring it.
All necessary protective gear is included free of charge, though you must provide your own shoes. Helmets and closed-toe shoes are mandatory for all riders, while gloves, knee pads and elbow guards are highly recommended. You are welcome to bring your own protective gear or use ours.
Unfortunately, there are no storage facilities at the trailheads. We recommend travelling light and bringing a waterproof pouch or bag to protect any electronics in case of rain.
Weather
Singapore is a tropical country with day-time temperatures typically ranging from 28°C to 35°C with high humidity and short bursts of rainfall.
Yes. There's little seasonal variation in Singapore, though during the monsoon months (December–January) you can expect heavy rainfall late afternoon on most days.
It’s Singapore, so a little tropical rain is all part of the adventure! However, if there is a heavy downpour or lightning, we will seek safety immediately. The nature parks we ride in are equipped with lightning-protected shelters at regular intervals. If the weather radar shows persistent heavy storms or if the trails become too muddy and unsafe before we start, we will look at the live radar updates and offer you a flexible rescheduling option or a full refund.
Trails & Difficulty
We ride purpose-built mountain bike trails in the tropical forests around Singapore, built and managed by the national parks agency, NParks.
You need to know how to ride a bicycle and feel comfortable being outdoors in tropical temperatures of 28 to 35°C. Beyond that, the pace is entirely customised to your group's fitness level, and we can take breaks or exit the trail whenever you need. There are technical features for advanced riders, but you can always walk your bike around any obstacle you'd rather not ride.
In short, as difficult as you want them to be. For those new to the sport, we stick to wide, gentle green trails with minimal obstacles. For experienced riders, we head straight to Singapore's fast, flowing jungle singletrack, filled with sharp turns, drop-offs, rocks, and roots.
Absolutely. As long as you can ride a two-wheeler, we'll introduce you to the sport. Every session starts with a full briefing covering your bike and controls, riding posture, and how to handle different terrain, focusing on core skills like body positioning and braking.
