Travel Protection
Prepare for your Trailsurfers adventure with the right travel insurance. This page explains what cover you need and why it matters.
Why Travel Insurance Is Mandatory
Every Trailsurfers guest is required to hold comprehensive travel insurance for the duration of their trip. Mountain biking in remote and mountainous terrain carries real risks, and the right insurance protects you, your fellow travellers and our local teams in the event of injury, illness, evacuation or trip disruption.
We may ask for proof of insurance before departure. If you cannot provide adequate cover, we reserve the right to cancel your booking without refund.
What Your Policy Should Cover
At a minimum, your travel insurance policy should include: emergency medical expenses and hospitalisation; emergency evacuation and repatriation, including helicopter rescue where terrain requires it; trip cancellation, curtailment and interruption cover; cover for lost, stolen or damaged baggage and personal effects; personal liability cover; and 24-hour emergency assistance with a clear contact number.
Make sure your policy covers the specific activities you will be doing. Standard travel insurance may exclude mountain biking, off-road cycling or adventure sports unless explicitly added.
Recommended Cover Levels
We strongly recommend policies with at least the following limits: medical expenses — USD 250,000 or more; emergency evacuation and repatriation — USD 500,000 or more; trip cancellation — the full non-refundable cost of your tour.
Higher limits are advisable for destinations with limited medical facilities or where helicopter evacuation is the only practical rescue option.
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, ensure they are declared to your insurer and covered by your policy. Failure to disclose relevant conditions may invalidate your cover when you need it most.
Please also inform Trailsurfers of any conditions, allergies or medications that our guides should be aware of during the tour.
Booking & Cancellation Protection
Travel insurance can protect the non-refundable portion of your booking if you need to cancel due to illness, injury or other covered reasons. We recommend purchasing insurance as soon as you confirm your tour to maximise your cancellation cover.
COVID-19 & Health Disruptions
Choose a policy that covers COVID-19-related medical treatment, quarantine costs and trip disruption where possible. Entry requirements and local restrictions can change quickly, and the right policy can reduce the financial impact of unexpected changes.
Choosing an Insurer
We do not sell travel insurance, but we are happy to recommend providers who understand adventure travel. Look for insurers with experience in cycling, trekking or adventure sports, and read the policy wording carefully before purchase.
