Mountain bike through the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of Cappadocia, Turkey — a land of fairy chimneys, cave dwellings and hidden valleys. Six days of All Mountain and XC riding take you from the Ihlara Canyon and the Kaymaklı underground city to the 'Pump track of Cappadocia' and the 2007 European XC course. Highlights include an optional sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the valleys and a descent of the Red Bull downhill track.

Schedule

Day 1:
Arrive in Kayseri. Transfer to Güzelyurt to check in at hotel Ihlara Konaklari. Bike assembly. Home-cooked welcome dinner, before bed in a rustic cave room.
Day 2:
A traditional Turkish breakfast is followed by our first ride from Kizil (red) church through the Ihlara Canyon to the Melendez river. Shuttle return to our hotel in Güzelyurt.
Day 3:
Following a tour of the Kaymaklı underground city, we set off for Mustafapaşa. A 45km single-track ride that ends with a challenging climb. Dinner, before bed.
Day 4:
Today we ride in the valleys of Gomeda, Üzengi, & Zemi (the 'Pump track of Cappadocia'), finishing on the 2007 European XC course. First night in Göreme National Park.
Day 5:
An optional hot air balloon flight, is followed by a ride through the stunning Pigeon & Love valleys. After lunch, we return to Göreme to rest for the rides ahead.
Day 6:
An epic ride day starts with a climb to Sunset Point. From there, we loop through Sword, Rose & Red valleys and tackle the off-camber Balcony Trail. Return to Göreme.
Day 7:
From Red Valley summit, we descend the Viking trail, before hitting the Red Bull downhill track. After lunch we shuttle some of our favourite trails and celebrate with a final dinner in Göreme.
Day 8:
Departure day.

Trip Details

What this means:

Terrain – On mellow trails and at a steady pace, you feel comfortable tackling singletrack that may include tight trees, muddy sections, loose rocks, and sand.

Obstacles – You can confidently roll over small features (a few inches high) such as roots, rocks, and minor drops, but you generally keep both wheels on the ground.

Bike Parks – If you’ve been to a bike park, you handle Green and Blue trails with ease and are willing to try Red trails. You roll obstacles smoothly but still prefer to keep both wheels on the ground.

Bike Skills – You’re confident applying these fundamental bike handling techniques on a variety of singletrack:

Shifting – You look ahead and shift in response to the terrain.
Descending – You descend confidently in a standing position, holding the pedals level and maintaining balance.
Speed Control and Braking – You use momentum to climb rolling terrain and are comfortable using both your front and back brakes when required.

Hami is a licensed cultural and historical tour guide based in Cappadocia, with 15 years of experience in both guiding and mountain biking. He graduated from Nevşehir University with a degree in Tourism Guiding and also has first-aid training. Mountain biking is not just his job; it's his passion and one of his favourite hobbies. He feels lucky to make a living doing what he loves. For Hami, the best way to experience Cappadocia is on two wheels or on foot, exploring its hidden trails, remote valleys and landscapes away from the crowds. He loves telling the story of Cappadocia through its trails, sharing not only its incredible geology and history but also its local culture, traditions and everyday life. He enjoys helping people discover places they might never find on their own. Hami believes tourism should be about genuine experiences, connecting with nature and respecting the places we visit. That's why he prefers small-scale, sustainable outdoor adventures over mass tourism. His goal is to share the Cappadocia he knows and loves, one trail at a time.

We had a wonderful time on a mix of superb single-track and small dirt roads. The guide found some exciting stuff for me and was very patient with my wife's lack of experience. She was made to feel very comfortable and welcome. We saw some amazing historical sites with interesting insights. I highly recommend the skill and care taken.
